An introduction to the Bowen Technique

How does it work?

By applying a series of maneuvers called 'movements' and through gentle digital pressure on various points of the body, innate natural resources are stimulated to repair themselves at the cellular level. These 'movements' transmit vibrational signals through the Extracellular Matrix (ECM). According to its own physical and energetic capacities, the body responds within its own time frame with the aim of achieving homeostasis.

 Thomas Ambrose Bowen   1916 - 1982

A brief history

The Bowen Technique was developed by Thomas Ambrose Bowen back in the mid 1950s in the town of Geelong in Australia. Tom was gifted with an incredible intuition and  amazing observational skills which led him to the point where he treated up to 6/7 people simultaneously. He was also known to treat farm animals and their owners in his spare time.

In the mid -1970s, the Victorian State government  conducted an investigation into the effectiveness of unconventional holistic treatments that were popular at the time. Although Tom was the only person practicing his technique, he was so well known that the authorities could not ignored him. The investigation, entitled 'The Webb Report', stated that after a six-month observation period, Tom treated about 13,000 people a year, each had received an average of 2 to 3 treatments with a success rate of close to 90%, regardless of the type of ailment presented.

Today the Bowen Technique is practiced in over 40 countries.

Founder of Bowmaster & The Bowen Private Association (BPA) Welcome to my practice.

For over 30 years, I’ve dedicated my professional life to mastering, practising, and teaching the Bowen Technique across the UK, Italy, and beyond.

As the Founder and Chairperson of the Bowmaster private Association, I have developed my own interpretation of this remarkable therapy that has helped countless individuals find relief, balance, and renewed well-being.

My Journey with Bowen Technique Has been one of continuous discovery and refinement:

● Over 30 Years of Practice in Australia, Italy and the UK, working with clients from all walks of life, including prominent international political figures, English and Italian nobility, the very upper echelons of the catholic church and one of the world’s top football-players.

● Corporate Wellness Programmes developed for organizations including IBM Italia and FIAT Sports Performance Enhancement with teams including Wexford Football Club My Approach to Bowen Through years of experience, I’ve developed my philosophy which centres on the understanding that before any of us can perform at our best, whether in sports, work, or daily life, we first struggle with our own physical and psychological stress. I believe that the sum of everyone’s personal stress, however small, becomes even more significant when expressed in the collective. This is particularly true within a team environment where the collective tension can greatly impact on the overall performance and harmony.

The Bowen Technique plays a vital role in addressing and relieving both the physical and the emotional tension, allowing individuals to redirect their energy toward their goals and improve their performance, whether on the playing field or in the workplace.

I’ve also conducted successful trials with the NHS at the Woodfield Road Medical Centre in Westminster, working with both staff and patients to demonstrate the technique’s effectiveness in healthcare settings.
